Mens Pairs Open - Alwoodley GC - 27th Sept '19

2019 Venue for the Brabazon Trophy or the English Open Amateur Strokeplay Championship to give this prestigious events its full title.

The Alwoodley is home to one of the finest and most subtle inland courses in the British Isles, located in a secluded spot.

Alwoodley’s famous architect, Dr Alister MacKenzie, created a layout of rare subtlety and sophistication on moorland to the north of the city of Leeds.

Alwoodley is a natural heathland course, with springy fairways that cut through a profusion of heather, whins and shrubs. It features eye-catching and naturalistic-looking bunkers, strategic choices, and large, often undulating, greens.

The course runs almost straight out and back, the inward nine being tougher as most holes are played into the prevailing wind.

Now well over a century old, the Original MacKenzie remains true to its architect’s original intentions.

However, new championship tees have extended the course to in excess of 6,900 yards against a par of 71 in readiness for the English Open Amateur Strokeplay Championship – more commonly known as the Brabazon – that Alwoodley is proud to host for the first time in 2019.

The competition format is Pairs Better Ball Stableford played off 75% handicap.

The winners will win the trip of a lifetime to Pebble Beach Golf Resort in California in February 2020, which includes a 5 night stay including Breakfast, return flights, all transfers and 3 competitive rounds of golf.

To protect the integrity of our events and in line with the recommendations on England Golf, we do notify all home clubs of the players away day scores.
